The exact net-profit formula

Net profit per sale =

(item price + shipping charged)
 − $0.20 listing
 − 6.5% × (item price + shipping charged)
 − (processing % × order + flat fee)
 − [Offsite Ads % × order, if applicable]
 − (materials + labor + packaging + your shipping cost)

Margin-protecting pricing tricks

Don't bury shipping. The 6.5% transaction fee hits shipping too — "free shipping" just means it's baked into a higher price that's also taxed by the fee. Price for it deliberately.
Mind the flat fees on cheap items. $0.20 + $0.25 is ~9% of a $5 sale but under 1% of a $50 sale. Sub-$8 products need a much fatter markup to survive.
Work backward from target margin, not forward from cost. Pick the margin you want, then solve for price (the fees make this non-obvious — a spreadsheet or the calculator does it instantly).
Budget for Offsite Ads if you're near $10k/year — a single 15% order can erase the profit of two normal ones. Know which SKUs can absorb it.
Re-check after every Etsy fee change. Etsy adjusts processing rates and ad terms regularly; a 0.5% shift across hundreds of orders is real money.
